PERSONAL HISTORY:
In the year 2352, Shartruse had come to the conclusion that her people (Brekkians) were taking advantage of the Ornarans and becoming a lazy race as a result. She determined she would do something about it and headed to Onara to talk to the people there. They could not and would not see reason and threw Shartruse into prison for being a subversive troublemaker. In prison Shartruse met Coran, one of the guards. She was able to talk sense into him, but they both recognized there was little they could do to change the way things were. Coran set Shartruse free and the two of them became stowaways on a freighter heading back to Brekkia.

In 2353, Chance's parents left the Delos system and headed for the DMZ to claim a piece of land among the colonies. They settled on Solosos III in 2354 and became peaceful farmers. Though Shartruse had seen fit to take felicium with them, it eventually ran low. Coran suffered severe withdrawals as he detoxed from the narcotic and this left his heart weak, but he survived. Because of his experience, Shartruse determined that she would become a doctor. It was rough among the colonies to receive the necessary training but she managed to apprentice to the colony doctor and eagerly read everything he possessed and studied the medical field with a growing passion.

In 2356 a daughter was born to Shartruse and Coran. They named her Chance in recognition of how one chance in life had led them to this place of peace and happiness in spite of the unrest brewing with the Cardassians.

The year 2360 would be one of great loss. The Cardassians raided Solosos III for supplies and Coran died defending his home. Shartruse managed to escape with four year old Chance, but the experience left her with a deep abiding hatred for all that was Cardassian.

In 2362 Shartruse booked passage aboard a cargo ship and with Chance left Solosos III. Shartruse had no idea where she was going. She simply had to get away from the memories. The cargo ship made a stop at Volon III and this became the new home for mother and daughter. Shartruse set up shop as a colony doctor and the pair would remain there for the next eight years.

During that time Chance received an education on many levels. She not only learned the typical fare of academia shoved into every colonial child, she also learned the more practical arts of manipulation and thievery. She grew up thinking that stealing from the rich to provide for the poor was a noble occupation and the old tales of Robin Hood shared with her by a Federation Officer only served to glorify those feelings.

In 2370, when Shartruse first became aware of the Maquis, she didn't waste any time joining up. Her dedication and trustworthiness led her to be moved to the secret Maquis base of McAllister's Rock where she would serve as a doctor, tending to the injured and wounded with limited supplies, many home remedies, and a lot of improvisation.

When the Cardassians attacked The Rock, Shartruse saw to it that Chance was taken to the Electra while she and her staff gathered what they could. When McAllister's Rock finally blew, Chance had no way of knowing if her mother made it off or not.
